Pete, your new camera does take a nice picture and you'll find lots of use for it, I'm sure. Olympus makes a fine camera... I've owned an OM-1 since 1973. I wouldn't buy a digital camera without the hot-shoe as the on-camera flash lacks the output needed for distance.

A good photo-program will come in handy too. I use Corel Photo-Paint 8 but there are many other fine programs out there too.
