Colt 1911A1?

Michael, I am no expert on this matter, but the wood grips were used for WW1, and then replacements were the brown plastic and is what we had on our 45's when they were replaced in the late 1980's.

My 1911 book says; Colt arms; walnut stocks gradually phased out by roughly 730000, plastic stocks introduced April 1940, widespread use began in March 1941.

Keyes Fibre Co., used on Ithaca, Rand, and Union Switch, were strictly the plastic ones.

There are several styles of plastic stocks and I quote "...all stocks were about the same semi-gloss drab brown color. The shade varied slightly with each vat mixture and contractor."

The book is a good one called Collectors Guide to Colt 45 Service Pistols, by Charles Clawson.
