It would not surprise me if it somehow missed getting the Colt stamped on it. I have not seen that before, but I have seen all sorts of variations in older Colts. If you read John Brunner's article on collector aspects of the Colt Pocket Autos in Gun Digest (1988), he lists all sorts of markings and features which are supposed to be present based on sub-model and year of production. However, in comparing known-original specimens to his charts, I saw variations from his specifications including different style pony stamps and lettering on slides, etc. etc. With Colt, I'd never say you would not find an exception to the rule, or something that happened different on a given day, "just because." (Warning: this is just my amateur opinion; I am not a super duper collector, nor do I play one on TV! :-) )
I have, however, looked at a bunch of old Colt automatics over the past 20 years...
