I got shot once, and I can assure you that a .45 hurts. It is unimaginable. Parts fly away. And you watch as you are pulled away after them. And no matter what part of your body is shot, your stomach turns to ice.

My brother-in-law enjoys the self-inflicted type of gunshots. Around the foot area hidden with field boots and wool socks. All calibres are good. He can fill up a boot with blood faster than should be allowed by law.
Of course he spent some time in a wheel chair also. And, as you said, it made him an unreasonable bastard too.
