I have heard of several, but you might want to consider Colt. In that way, it'd be a factory refinish...

I am pretty sure that Thor can strip it for you, and do the metal prep, but he doesn't do plating... he probably knows the 'right' person to do it... Sending it back to the colt custom shop as Ed suggests certainly couldn't be a mistake...

I assume that's a .38 Super? Don't believe they were still making the standard .38 auto that late but I've been wrong before. In my experience, those pre WW2 Colt .38 Supers in original condition have good collector value so I wouldn't be in any rush to refinish.

Colt did make a lot of nickle plated Government model pistols during that period. I'm betting it's original. I've seen a lot of early Colt .38 Supers with that finish
