As unspellable has said, the problem you have described is the reason for the later production changes of "bumps" on the back of the Luger frame, and a larger flange on the pin...
I think it is possible that your main/recoil spring may have been shortened or at the very least weakened so that the slide travel past the frame ears... Solution? a new proper length Wolfe spring.
