Base,

Maybe that's the same group of guys mentioned in the Handgunner article (I never had my hands on a SOF magazine). I'm still waiting for some underwater shooting data.

I wouldn't be surprised if a high velocity rifle fired with water in the barrel (or fired underwater) would be damaged. A rifle barrel holds a lot of water and adding this weight to the bullet weight without reducing powder charge would probably give reeeaaal high pressures.

On the other hand, a pistol barrel doesn't hold a lot of water and, if fired with a moderate load might be OK (except perhaps for the effect of the concussion on the shooter).
