Jim, making an incorrect assumption is one thing, digging yourself in is quite another. Read Dwight's work, look at the pictures. You will see the signs of replaced barrels in the off alignment of the witness mark. This is an important bit of information to be familiar with if you want to collect Lugers. There are a lot of "messed with" Lugers out there. People are trying to help educate new collectors on this forum. Take advantage of the information

In other words, you actually know no more about this than I do, and you apparently know less about gun production technques. But you are quick to take as gospel books written by people who were not there, and never bothered to learn anything about how guns are made.
I have actually looked at absolutely original Lugers and in many cases the receiver and barrel marks were obviously not made at the same time with the same tool, as would be the case under your theory. I am ending this silly thread. It is like trying to convince any true believer that a tenet of his faith might not be correct. You have developed a concept of Luger manufacture that makes no sense, would be extremely inefficient, and would be totally unnecessary. Jim |

Well, obviously a difference of opionion here, somehow I doubt this will change or convince anyone of what they see as correct, so I am closing this thread.
