Thanks thor, you have been a big help! I will try to **** the pistol manually as you described. I have a feeling you are pointing me in the direction of the problem.

p.s. if I start further disassembling the pistol to examine the bolt, etc. Is there anything I should be careful not to do? I have never disassembled the pistol past removing the receiver for cleaning in the 20+ years I have owned it
