The History channel is running Tales of The Gun today and one of the 'tales' is the Luger. They usually repeat the show twice and sometimes more. This tape costs $24.95, tape it free today for you library if you have access to the History channel. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

Tales of the Gun-"The Luger" I highly recommend it, I have an old self made copy and a couple I have purchased. A good overall view of the history, some neat vintage film footage, some astonding test firings, the tale of the surviving 45 Test Luger, and some collecting aspects. The guy shooting his Luger with his eyes closed was absolutely amazing! Nice to see Charlie Kenyon, Garry James, Fred Datig, Mike Krause and Ralph Shattuck so we know what they look like. Datig and Kenyon are two people I would especially love to meet!

Fred shows up at the Phoenix Gun Shows, occasionally. I usually stop and chat for a few minutes, when he isn't too busy. Seems like a very nice gentleman.

Yes, I'll add to that, I enjoyed the Luger one (Japanese one too), I like how they show the guns, show them shooting and talk to the experts.

Yeah, I just watched it myself, likely for the second or third time. Jeese, who would have figured it was "Marathon Monday", for Tales of the Gun. I noticed it was coming on just as I was going out to do some business, so I recorded it.
I have recorded alot of the Tales of the Gun shows, but definitely not the supposed 50 or so that were supposed to have been made. I decide to hold on to my 1915 bringback standard luger while watching the show, even though it is a really rusty gun, with very accurate barrel. Makes me wonder where my 1915 has been, and why or how it got so rust pitted in areas of the grip and upper barrel extension(likely from be left in a very wet holster for exteneded period of time). |

One thing I noticed, was the POOR condition of the re-enactors lugers.
One would think; spending large $ on uniforms/etc., these people would at least re-blue their guns. Of course, all of Ralph's lugers looked great! I sometimes "play" civil war. All of my equip. looks new (don't like to look like I just fought f/ little round top-have special shirt to look like i've been shot). Have a sum of $ into it, want to look my best. Anyway, I thought they looked (WW1/WW2) good: just lousy looking lugers! capkid |
