On the 1933 Standard-Modell Mauser's, what is the thing near the fron sight?
PS: I finally held a Mitchell Arms Luger today, I want one! It was the 4" barrel version-for some reason it looked small.

Also, in a book I saw for values of the Standard-Modell Short Rifle is less than the Standard-Modell Carbine(selling as much as twice as more). What is the difference in these two.

Check the Mitchell out side by side with an earlier Luger; they are pretty much identical dimensionaly. I think I read in an article linked in another thread that they showed mitchel parts assembled onto a WWII Luger !

I looked at my books And the Mauser standard pretty much resembles a WWII K98K rifle. The only major differences's I noticed were the straight bolt, stock finger grooves, and sling swivels on the bottom of the stock. I bet the one you saw had a muzzle cap on it. I saw no references to an even shorter carbine. I do know that F.N. made similar rifles(23.5" barrels) and carbines(18" or so, barrels).
