I'll momentarily cast off my self willed and comfortable southern and Alabama culture of hunting, dogs, guns and old trucks for a question that I one day may be forced to answer.
I have listened to a gentleman from Great Britian who has had his guns lawfully taken away from him. Failure to do so would result in imprisonment. I have spoken with a man in the Netherlands who is allowed only to possess five guns at a time after a one year trial period. I have heard from a man in Germany who has explained the restrictive gun laws in his country. There is a man from France who has indicated gun laws are very imposing. There is a man from Canada attempting to retain a family heirloom and many from Australia who are losing their property. And there is also a gentleman from New Zealand who has told me a shocking story offline in the same line. As with all offline discussions, I do not make them a part of the forum without express permission of the sender. I said all that to say this: What would I do? Assume the law has been passed here as it has been in their countries. All are respected democracies. I, as do these other men, now have the option to either obey the law or risk fine, imprisonment, or both. If caught breaking the law I will lose my means of making a living (felons can't work in schools),my bank accounts would be frozen, my house - siezed as part of the illegal action, serve time in a federal prison, lose my family - would your wife agree with the martyr thing as she is thrown out? - in order to retain my guns. The feds know I have guns. Turn them in or risk all of the above. Abide the law in a nation of laws or become a felon. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. I really don't know if I am made of the stuff to do that. I do not envy the choice they are having to make, and pray I never have to do he same. rk |
