My last Luger purchase was a 1912 Erfurt that had a broken off hold open spring, among other things. I pondered this dilemma as my smallest punch was 1/16" and was much too large for the 1mm hole that held the hold open spring remains. While thinking about this problem I noticed a couple of bulletin board "push pins" on the shelf next to me. I tried one and it just went into the center of the remaining pin part and made it open out even more. I took it out to the garage and ground off the end of it until about only 3/8" was left and found that it fit the 1mm ID of the hold open perfectly. I then easily drove out the remaining piece of spring with no problem. If any of you have this problem, give this solution a try.

Hi Herb,
I have found that in my tinkerings in the garage that those push pins do help out quite a bit for small items like that. Thanks for the post. Sid.

Sid, I have used those push pins to remove the 3/64" +- diamter sear bar plunger spring retainer pin if they are not too stuck! I usually cut the point off them with a pair of wire cutters.
