Like Pete, I started actively collecting about six months ago. Conventional wisdom is, determine what it is you want to collect and then concentrate on that. I seem to be doing things the other way around, finding and buying Lugers which interest me and then finding out what it means.
It seems to me, that I am most interested in pre-WWII Lugers. I suppose I am looking for an over-all rerpresentitive sample of various major types. Someone else posted, somewhere along the line, that they regarded DWM Lugers as authentic, and Mauser produced Lugers as reproductions. I feel some affinity for that point of view. Otoh, I suppose I am a bit schizophrenic about the whole thing, as I prefer to shoot 9mm WWII guns, and I have a hard time passing up any Luger at a decent price which seem...interesting. --Dwight |
