Picked these up on e-Bay cheaply just to see the quality in these plastic luger grips made to look like wood.
Quality looks very good and they fit well on my WWII pieces... Stamped "Made in Italy" on one inside surface. Does anyone know if these are modern-day or from the 1960's-70's ? ![]() ![]() Regards, Pete... |

Pete -
Can't be sure from the picture, but it appears these have the coarser checkering found on WW-II Lugers as opposed to the finer checkering on WW-I DWMs. Could you confirm? Luke

Hi Luke,
Yes...they do not have the WWI checkering pattern. More like Mauser work. From the "grain" lines on the inside of the grip plates, it appears they might have been molded from a real set of wooden grips...just a WAG... Actually they are good looking grips, probably great for shooters. Your guess about the grain lines on the inside indicating that the mold was made from actual grips is probably correct. That would be a common-sense, straightforward approach if the designer wanted a look of authenticity.
It will be interesting to see if anyone can identify them.

Pete, This is the first that I've heard of plastic PO8 grips from Italy. At one time NC Ordnance, in No Carolina, made a line of brown plastic grips for many pistols, called their Ironwood line. TH

Hi Tom,
I have sent a follow-up email to the seller of these grips on e-Bay. Maybe they will be able to let us know more about these Italian grips. Seller got back to me this afternoon. He does not know the source for these, either...just picked them up along the way... Regards, Pete... |

I do know of a fellow grip maker who is pretty good at making plastic mold grips from the originals. I will inquire with him if there is interest.
I must say that I have seen nice repro wood grips going on ebay for $25 (or less). Even if it is just a shooter grade luger, I would prefer wood.
