Core Dump is still present day computer speak.
The Linux box I am using now will optionally create core.* files when a program crashes. These can be loaded into the debugger to find out what happened. This is a legacy aspect of Unix/Linux. Although it would not suprize me that there is someone out there who has a working vintage core memory connected to a Linux PC! John, the gun looks like the real deal to me, The engraving appears to be the clincher. (FWIW!), Good luck with your new aquisition.
