Just because you might be paranoid does not mean that they are NOT out to get you!
It is the firm and stated intention of many gun control activists to remove all firearms from the hands of the general public, and make no mistake: this will include confiscation of ALL guns, including collections. You have only to look at California the see the Second Amendment as well as other rights be ignored. The anti-gun politicians do not care about truth or statistics; they only care about their own agendas and objectives. I can not speculate on their reasons (although I do not think that they are benevolent), but the misguided people who follow along are perhaps more innocent and certainly more ignorant. These unfortunates want the world to be as they would have it, and can not accept it as it is. They ignore reality, chant phrases about making the world a safer place, saving the children, etc., and engage in actions such as the "Muddled Mom March" (sic). The media and "celebrities" who promote anti gun propaganda and encourage the general public to follow along are hypocritical as well as misguided. I will use "misguided" and avoid calling them vermin as some people have because I am not sure it is always accurate or deserved. However, I haven't heard that the Kennedys, and others like them, insist that their bodyguards not carry firearms, nor have I seen any of the so-called actors declining to accept parts in movies that require them to use guns. None of these people really want to pour concrete down the barrel of Lugers, or any other firearm so that these weapons may be "safely" collected. That is only a delaying tactic in their war of attrition. What they really want is to melt them down and turn them all into manhole covers for septic sewers, and to reeducate the erstwhile owners along with anyone else who wants to have anything to do with a firearm for any reason. Collectors of firearms are probably at the top of the lists. Therapy sessions after the visit to the foundry, anyone? Honesty plays no part on their side of this struggle, and neither does logic. One of the arguments often given to justify the ban on "assault weapons" (whatever they might be) is that semi automatic weapons did not exist when the Constitution was framed, and therefore, whether the Second Amendment is valid or not, it has no application to these types of weapons. This neatly sidesteps having the argument about the Second Amendment for the moment and allows them to control certain types of guns now. Divide and conquer is an effective strategy but this is also base sophistry. They seem to miss the fact that the same reasoning could be applied to the concept of freedom of the press: TV, radio, computers, and etc., were unknown then also. This chain of logic would mean that only documents produced on hand powered Guttenberg printing presses can claim such freedom. Attitudes have changed: when I was in high school, students would bring rifles on the bus to participate in shooting matches, and no one gave it a second thought. There were no massacres then. It will be a long uphill fight to change things, but we can not give an inch. There can be no compromise: appeals for "reasonable" gun control are merely devices to further the anti gun agenda. Actively participate if you can, but set a good example and encourage others at all times, vote, send letters and email to your state and federal representatives (be polite, brief, resolute, and clear) and join or, at the very least, send money to organizations that support our beliefs. I did not mean to rant for so long, but I am concerned. Bob |
