Dutch M11 Grips
Hi,
As promised: These are the color pictures of the grips on a dutch frame # 2850: The left side is the original DWM grip (1913). The other side is a GS (Geweermakersschool) replacement. Both are stamped with the frame number (2850) and the GS grip has the GS mark added (no cartouche around the GS mark). Backsides: Frontsides: Detail DWM serial number: Detail GS serial number: Have fun, Gerben |

My M11 has one GS marked grip and one with no marking at all - or at least none discernible - they are pretty worn.

Hello Gerben,
Thanks so much for the photo posting. It is very educational, especially to see the checkering pattern difference betweeen GS and DWM. Regards, Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" /> |

JohnF,
I find that the Dutch coarse checkered grips are a mixed bag. I have those grips with the GS marking and serial number, serial number but no GS, and no markings at all. Some are well made and others a bit crude. So, I don't know if they are all Dutch, but the checkering pattern is very similar on all of them.

Hi,
Perhaps some logic that might work: Original grips (DWM/Mauser): -fine checkering + serial number Original Vickers Grips: -coarse checkering + serial number GS Replacement Grips: -coarse checkering + GS + serial number Post-1946 Grips: -All of the above, including unmarked grips. Several possibilities: Indonesia could have re-used GS stock that was left behind, explaining unnumbered grips. They might have produced replacement grips when supplies ran low, as they did with holsters. I would expect these grip variations on 'indonesia' marked dutch lugers (five-pointed star). |
