I have a friend who wishes to sell his Luger. It is a DWM 1913 standard Luger with an excellent bore.
- all parts matching except Magazin (same Number but Erfurt Mag). - Interior without bluing. My question: Has it been revised? I'm not sure. Shooter or Collector's item? |

I do think it has been refinished. If the Russians had dip-blued it, they wouldn’t have left the strawing alone. It still looks very nice.

This looks like a very nice re-finish to me, but I would need to see a closeup photo of the serial numbers on the underside of the barrel to be sure. The small retaining pin in the top of the toggle should be “in the white” and I would expect to see blueing damage where it was “X” marked by Russia. Other than that it looks really nice! I would be happy to own it!
Please try to get a photo of the underside of the barrel and see if you can spot any “halos” around the serial numbers stamped there. Again, if it is refinished they did a hell of a good job! I would much rather own this one than any normal dip blued Russian capture example. |

One tell tail sign is the pin in the top of the rear toggle. It should be in the white and yours appears to have been blued which suggests a refinish. If the Russians dip blued it and the dip blue has been removed to show the original finish, it's possible that the pin still retains the dip blue.
The lack of halos around the barrel and frame serial numbers also suggests a refinish. If it has been refinished, it was a very nicely done job IMO. |
