Default serial number question

can you determine month and year of a Pistol by the serial number? I have serial number 2626, thanks

Care to share more about the pistol ?
Make/model/Year/caliber?
Assuming it's a military pistol, only because you posted in the Military section....

If it's an early military luger, it's likely going to be early in the year, since you didn't include a suffix.

I am curious why you want to know.
Does it matter much ?

It's 42 with the year 1940 stamped on it, I am just curious

That non-suffix batch were issued in March 1940. (G&S page 865 - red set)
While they don't say which suffix, there were about 10,000 Lugers issued each month.
The Y and Z suffix were left overs from 1939, so the no suffix came out in the spring.
Mauser didn't reset at the beginning of the new year - the war was in going on.
