Hello, I'm new in the forum and I have an important question, I need your experts help.
Someone propose me a non restaured, never modified or reblued DWM 1915 P08 for 1400$. It has more than 99% original blueing, all matching numbers parts. The asked price is a little hot for me, but i think it has a very high collectable value because of it's condition. I'm not talking about buying to resell and make profit on it, but buy it to keep it as the master piece of the collection. Could i get your opinion on the value of that kind of gun? Knowing that I am in France and thoses toys are way more rare here than in the US. Thanks in advance, Arnaud c9zz@yahoo. |

Rather then offer you help, some feel it's more helpful too poke fun at your post and mis-information on the caliber. I am sure it is 9mm or 9x19mm, does it have a matching clip ? perhaps two matching clips ? or are the clips mis-matched too the gun, this would affect value, are the grips matched too the gun ?....holster? grip strap markings? please try too give a more detailed discription and I'm sure someone help will jump in and give you an estimate. thanks.

Arnaud, This pistol seems to be in excellent condition , yet it is hard to say if it is indeed original. The grips look to be intact. Policeluger had the right idea. Provide more information and one can give a more intelligent estimate of it's value. From what I can see it is a little high for U.S. prices. Here, pistols in excellent shape can be had for less. Usually they include a holster and matching magazine etc for $900.00 to $1200.00 U.S. I just purchased a pistol (LP08) Artillery, here at a local gunshow for $1200.00,with a matching magazine, of course I considered that a great bargain but it is an example of what you can find if you are patient and persistent.Jerry Burney

7.92X57 is his alias, not the caliber of the Luger .
Arnaud: The Luger looks very nice, and I am sure the overall blue coverage approaches 99%. However, the light pitting on the barrel and side plate detracts from the otherwise pristine appearance. I am not familiar with the value of Lugers in France, but here in the US, the value would be much closer to $1000, a little more/a little less. The light pitting on the barrel will clean up some by using 0000 steel wool and gun oil VERY LIGHTLY. The rust blue on a 1915 will tolerate this treatment quite well. It is a very good example and the 1915 date is not easy to find. If you do not mind paying a little too much for it, it might be a long time before you find another as good. Good Luck

When people say matching grips, they mean that on the underside of the wood grips there should be a two digit number. Sometimes its hard to find. If no number is there than is not bad. This number should be the same as the last two digits of the serial number on the front of the frame.
Every metal part, except springs and pins, should have this two digit number. The underside of the barrel should have the same serial number as the one found on the front of the frame. Rons suggestion for cleaning rust is good but do not spare the oil. AND DO GO LIGHTLY until you get the feel for what you are doing. Since you are new to Lugers, maybe its best not to do anything about any rust at this time. Sometimes new Luger people try too hard. This is just the beginning of examining a Luger for authenticity. If the barrel is too perfect then examine it to see if its been replaced. But its the start of a long journey. Too much to cover in one posting. Keep reading this forum. There are a lot of intelligent people here willing to help. I too think that the price is a bit high. But I don't know the French market or the situation with the Euro. The above prices seem about right for America. Good Luck, Big Norm |

Thanks to all of you for your forum or private answers. I guess I'll buy that pistol, cause if I don't, I know I'll regrett later.

Arnaud, I am just starting a registry, I would love all the information on your and anyone else's Luger.
Please include; 1. Manufacturer 2. Date if marked 3. ALL proofs 4. All Acceptance marks 5. Serial Number all numbers, if you feel you must, you may x out the last two, but not giving out the entire serial number defeats much of a registry... 6. Include suffix or put NS for NO Suffix 7. Any special comments 8. All matching 9. Type of magazine and serial number of magazine, please include any proofs or markings on the magazine and whether it is wood or aluminum. Ed

If we are talking $1,400.00usd, with a non-matching, not original issue with the gun mag, $1,400.00 is a bit high, $900.00usd would be more like it and at best. But then sometimes we just gotta have it, like the 1914 police DWM I got the other day, no reason to buy another, just needed a Luger "fix"....like a junkie...

The End (or the beginning) of the story is... I bought the expensive Luger. January the first is the day of my first Luger.
I enjoy it a lot, and I'll post pics, serial numbers and every details, very soon. Arnaud <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> |

Nice looking Luger. Assuming what you paid is the going rate in France, then I don't see how you can be hurt price wise. Keep it nice and it should gain in value.
