I love Ed's idea of a private range in my backyard ... unfortunately its not allowed here even if your miles from your nearest neighbor.
I like Georges idea the 2nd best as you kinda have an approximate idea of where your shells will end up.
sheepherder's idea seems kinda fishy to me

Spreading a tarp to cover that area could work as long as it doesn't interfere with other shooters.

My minnow-net was for indoor bench shell catching. Our range is small and shells bounce all over. I do [rarely] use it outdoors at a covered bench.

The tarp is a good idea if you know where it's ejecting.

And I love baked Alaskan Cod. With potato salad. And Pepsi.
