My first rifle was a Remington 581 bolt action with a Weaver 4x scope my Dad gave me when I turned six, that would have been 1973. I still have it and it is in great shape, shot it a lot when I was a kid. My dad built a gun range in our basement of our house, 50ft it was great. Growing up in NJ it was not easy to go to the gun range so my dad brought the gun range to me!

As did my father and uncles also, they grew up in Bergen county. I was told how they used to ride their bikes to school with their 22's to shoot at school. This was in the mid 50's to mid 60's. Times have changed.

same time period as your father + uncles but Middlesex county - times sure have changed ! - now it is a felony to leave your house or property w/o firearms ID , lend any firearm to any relative or friend , even with id travel with any firearm must be to range , hunting area , or gunsmith , + etc. - changes started in 1965 with sills act + have been getting progressively worse -
