I wasn't interested in music back then (still not). Couldn't have cared less for 'Woodstock'. High tech race cars were much more interesting for the weekend. Watkins Glen and Mosport were both within driving distance and attracted the elite teams, technology, and drivers of the period.
Now, Formula 1, like Nascar, is just a popularity contest. No technology, just spec cars/engines, and a driver that is acceptable to millennials. Corporate ownership, design by committee, no innovation allowed. What a sorry end to what should be the pinnacle of engineer's dreams. ![]() BTW: Watkins Glen is on top of a 'mountain' in central New York state. The F1 races were always the first weekend in October. 'The Glen' is the most miserable place to be in October; cold, wet, windy, overcast, rainy, muddy, food stores sold out, no snack food to be found anywhere. The only redeeming service was the Genesee brewery sending a converted milk tanker full of fresh beer and hundreds of plastic gallon jugs.
