I just purchased a byf 41 with two magazines. One has a black plastic base and the second one is aluminum. Which is correct for this Luger? Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Sam, welcome!!! They both could be proper. First let us define "correct". If you mean what magazine was likely shipped with the pistol, then the answer will depend on the script suffix of the Luger. This suffix is found on the front of the frame, below the barrel and just under the numbers.
Most Luger magazines below the V suffix were marked fxo on the side, had an aluminum bottom and were numbered to the pistol. That is it was stamped with the serial number and suffix. Above the U Suffix, the pistol was shipped with either an unnumbered aluminum or plastic bottom. Above the U Suffix includes the pistols with no suffix or an A or B suffix. Now having said that, there might be some in the T, U, V Suffix range that might violate the general rule. It's sort of a gray area. Hope this helps!! |
