Hi, I'm new here. I've been in the guns forever. I've always wanted to Luger, but never pulled the trigger to buy one. So now I'm trying to read up on what I can. What are your favorite places to buy? I know prices can be all over the place.

What are your opinions on some of the websites like Legacy firearms etc.? They always seem to have very nice examples there. I'm going to assume their prices or a little high. But, I guess the more you know about the guns, the better you will be at looking around at different places to find better deals.

Hi Carl, and welcome to the forum.

To me, Legacy seems one of the more reputable online Luger dealers.

I also like Simpson Ltd and Checkpointcharlie.com for their long term integrity.

But, know that all businesses change over time and it's very hard to make a specific recommendation.

When someone runs a business like these companies, they must charge more than a direct collector to collector or auction sale. There is overhead, and they generally stand behind their sales.

For you, best advice is to study Lugers first. This is the best research approach: buy the reference books first.

Actually I find Legacy's prices can be very reasonable if you know what you are doing - you just have to look for the good deals. And knowing how to bargain doesn't hurt. I too have bought from them - excellent service.

I think the more difficult question is what/which luger to buy- After you figger that out then you can start to figger out where. Most people think a Luger is a Luger - that ain't so.. The price of a luger can and will be based on when it was built where and by whom. Also for whom - military, commercial a certain country and type - artillery, Navy, 08 or whatever. Like the man said - get some books and find out which Luger you want and then start looking for a place to buy it.

Carl, welcome to the forum.
There are many people here, not all are collectors, some shoot for competition, some shoot for fun, some both.
If you are a shooter rather than a collector there is also a wealth of information here on problem solving, maintenance, restoration and reloading.

I initially just wanted a toggle gun, for fun. I got a 1970's Mauser in 7.65 x 21 (.30 Luger) saw the cost of ammunition and set out to reload. This is about the only site that has that data.

But the collection of shooters has grown: a 1913 DMW P-08 in 9mm - because it does NOT have the Swiss grip safety, followed by an Erma KGP-69 in .22LR, again tech information and help from members here.

Whatever your reason for getting any of these the information sharing here is amazing.
