Greg & Ed,
* Per Jan Still, Third Reich Lugers, Pg. 27, "G" date Lugers occupy the S/N range of 930a-5000f for a total of 54,070 examples. Further, Jan's S/Var 2, which is a dwE63 marked "G" date, is said to occupy the S/N range of 5000d-5000f for a 20k total. * Ed's S/N 3032f Luger example is prima facia evidence of a "G" date appearing in the "f" block. * From an extensive S/N list of reported Luger pistols, only three (3) 1936 Chamber dated P.08's are recorded before the 5000f S/Number. Thirty-six "G" dates are recorded in this 1f-5000f range. It appears "G" dates are, for all practical purposes, solid up to 5000f with the few 1936 exceptions noted above. As this was a transition, please note about eight "G" dates are reported after the "f" block. * A review of Don Hallock's mag listing(s) reveal only one Type 1-nickle tubed/Aluminum base-Mauser Military-dE63 accepted magazine reported in the "G" date pre-5000f range that was issued with a 1936 chamber dated Luger(mag#=4260f). * Ed has partial pictures of his "G" date mags shown at http://www.gunboards.com/luger/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3012. * Based primarily on the above, the bright bodied, dE63 accepted magazine S/N 3033f was highly likely an original issued "G" date Luger mag IMHO. Respectfully, Bob |
