I have a Luger shoulder stock that is shorter than normal. It is 11 5/8” over all length. The short stock appears to be a very tight dense grain heart walnut. It would fit a 4 inch holster just fine If it had the two loops on the back as artillery holster do. The iron is correct in every way but no number. It is not marked anywhere. I’d like to know anything about it. Could it be for a Finnish M/23, or other country to use with a 4” holster? Any ideas?

IMO, you have a hand made copy of a board stock, perhaps intended to be in the Navy length.
The cuts at the neck of the stock are not "normal" for sure; and the inletting for the strap slots are also different.

Thank you
The Navy stock I have is much different and 12 ½" OAL. I've been at this for 60 years and I recall a article somewhere lost in time referencing a stock and holster made for the 4 inch Luger. It could be home made, and well done. That is possible, but a lot of trouble to go through. |

To my knowledge, no stock is ATF legal with a 4" barreled luger. One might make a case for the 5000 commerical 7.65mm lugers sold to Finland in 1923 with surplus WW1 used LPO8 (Artillery) stocks. I ocasionally see these with Finish made holsters attached. TH

Tom,
Wouldn't the Benke-Thiemann stocks also be acceptable to use on commercial Lugers even with 5" or shorter barrels?

There is an ATF letter to that effect. I believe this is what the OP refers to in post # 3.
