Most self loading pistol problems are feeding from worn out magazines and/or the wrong shape bullets (hollow points or scored bullets don't feed smoothly). The springs get old in any magazine, but lugers are really old, too. Also, you can end up blowing out the bottoms if they aren't metal. Do use a new magazine and MegGar's are easy to find and affordable.

The other secret is a firm grip. I you let your pistol rock back in your hands, you interfere with the inertial and momentum of the entire gun. You can expect a jam of you are casually popping off rounds.
