Talking 1936 S/42

This is my first post. I concluded from looking at this site for several days this is where the best pool of information resides.

One of the pistols I aquired from my father who is now deceased is a war trophy 1936 S/42 with about 98% original blueing, about 75% original strawing, perfect bore, no dings or scratches, perfect wooden grips. The parts are all matching serial number and the magazine is blued with an aluminum base. The mag serial number does not match, but is close in number.

I don't have any way to post pictures as my computer scanner is on the fritz. I'd like an idea as to whether this a collector class weapon or shooter as described and an idea as to it's value, though I have no intention of selling it. I would also like forum members thoughts on a proper authentic holster and take-down tool and how much I should pay for them.

I have more information on this pistol's history if anyone is interested.

Thank you for your attention and any information you can provide.

Sherlock, we are always ready to try and help! Welcome to the forum <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Holster / Tools would be close to that time period, in reality you might find a WW1 gun and WW2 holster and vice versa, but most collectors try to find the same year or a year here or there. Holsters on e-bay are cheaper right now, go from $85-150 and up, depending on color, brown ones go for a lot more, black not as high. Tools are $40-$75?

In the condition you describe, it is a collector piece, unless reblued, modified or has bad pitting or scratches.

As you can see below, I am interested in a guns history, I have collected about 30-40 stories of Vets and their guns they brought back. Please send me the story and pictures when you can. Borrow a digital camera or use a friends scanner, make numerous pictures, top, bottom, sides.

Sherlock, welcome to the Luger Forum!!

Ed is absolutely correct. If it is all original, it's a collector. If it's as good as you say it is, the value is in the $1300 to $1500 range.

When looking for a tool, try to find a droop eagle over 63. The droop eagle will look just like the rear most marking on the right side of the receiver (just aft of the barrel).

Good Luck and enjoy your Luger!!!
