Default Looking for help with 1917 Artillery Luger

Hello
I recently acquired a Luger that was encased in a wooden presentation box and I've never seen anything like it.

From what I can tell it is a 1917 Artillery Luger with Serial Number 3541. The woodwork and the metal work is something I've never seen. All the parts I can see appear to match but are some kind of custom work.

More pictures are at the Imgur link below. Any help with what this is would be greatly appreciated.
