Post LUGERS IN IRAQ or IRAN??

Recently I read the American rifleman article about handguns in the Iraq war.

It gt me thinking. Does anybody know if any sizeable sales of Lugers were made to Iraq or Iran?

Iran bought Mausers of Brno manufacture, and leaned toward German hardware, and of course Iraq had both Mausers and British equipment.

How 'bout other Mid-East countries? Like Syria, or even Israel?

The Persian Artillery Lugers made by Mauser in the 1930's went to Iran, the former Persia.

One of my machanics is going over to Iraq, he has instructions to send me any lugers that he finds.

Keep him in your prayers.

Russ & Ron, I got one of those unsolicited emails this morning... the kind most usually delete without opening, but this one came from someone I care about...take a moment and visit this page, and see if the lump in your throat gets any smaller... (P.S. Somehow I doubt it):

I've seen some of these intersting shots with this moving dialogue before. The shot of the high explosive anti-take round heading downrange was exciting and technically interesting. The shot of the two young ladies grabbing a chance to get some sleep was moving. It reminded me of how far away "home" really is.

My son was in Iraq in the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Id and was in the lead elements entering Baghdad last April, when the war and the county were different. He came returned to Fort Stewart last August and his unit is slated to return to Iraq next winter.

He reported no sightings of lugers there, at that time and in the places that he was in, although weapons of many types were everywhere available. He did see a Iraqi copies of a Beretta, I believe. He also reported that Army elements were prohibited from bringing back weapons of any kind. He thought that Marine elements were under different rules and were allowed to do so.

Again, that site is a moving one to review and I thank you, John, for sharing it here.

David,

I wish it weren't so, but Marines are also under the same rules as the other branches (as far as firearms go). I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I could bring back firearms, I would be in heaven. Although there are always ways to smuggle firearms on vehicles being shipped back to the good old U.S., you just have to know were to stash them.

When we came back from Grenada I unloded all of the small arms that were captured. The captain would not let me dig threw them. He got real mad at me when I accidentaly opend one of the crates that they were in.

I own a Russian Mak that was taken from a burned-out Iraqi truck during the First Gulf War. My son was in the 82nd AB (Infantry) and a friend of his brought it back and gave it to my son after they both returned to the States. In turn, it was given to me. It needs new grips and I want to replace the springs. A project in waiting.
