Theuermann Drop Type Holsters WWII for larger pistols

I always thought this was a post WWII design for P.38/P-1s.?

I also though the straps were strange, but the belt runs between them and the flap. So the holster rides tight to the body hanging on the closed flap. Then when opened, it falls down under weight of the pistol and flap stays open and pistol is pulled out.
