Perhaps by "variation" or "model" you can mean a "group of guns within which cannot be distingusihed from one anothr by an external visual inspection alone." E.G. Change in toggle = different model. (early versus late toggles) or "with stock lug, or without stock lug would mean a different model. Swiss Lugers with unrelieved or relieved magazine wells would be considered different models, since there is a modification- to be seen by the flat or round knob on the magazine.
Just an idea. Fascinating no matter how you label these works of art.
