That picture of the U Boat surrender took place in world war I. If the name of the destroyer was indeed Fanning, it wasn't DD385 as stated, but DD37. It happened in November 1917. DD385 Fanning never saw a German U Boat. It spent all the war in the Pacific theater. Edit: If anyone wants to know, the sub pictured is U-58, a type U 57 submarine that was launched in 1916.
