Pistole Parabellum Presentation

I recently made this PowerPoint presentation on Luger pistols to the Houston Gun Collectors Association. It was well received and the audience was very complementary.

Here is an attempt to share this presentation with the Luger Forum. I realize that the overall presentation will be lacking due to no verbal narrative. In spite of the missing narrative I hope you can enjoy this.

I was halfway through downloading it, then realized I have nothing that will open PowerPoint.

Nice presentation! Just for future reference, there is no such thing as a 06/24 Swiss...that is a long standing misnomer. They started manufacturing in 1918 not 1924. Generally a short designation would be "06 W+F", or the longer "1900/06 Waffenfabrik Bern", or anything else you can come up with that eliminates the use of "24".

Getting rid of that 06/24 label has been a bit of a crusade for me!

Thank you for your insight into the misuse of the conventional dating techniques developed in the early days of Luger collecting. Collectors and authors like Fred Datig (1950) made assumptions based upon their research that was limited compared to today’s available information.

I am aware that the designation 06/24 is not accurate. The Swiss started planning production of the “06 W+F” well before 1918. I erroneously fell back into the conventional dating of 06/24 in preparing this presentation. However, this misuse was a topic of discussion in the Q&A section.

I picked up a 1900/2000 Stainless like this one several months ago, is this yours?

No David the NAPCA special edition American Eagle Stainless (Black) Steel Luger in my presentation is not mine. I have seen an example of this pistol but did not have the cash to purchase. Can't have everything, too bad.

Dick, thanks for sharing your presentation.

For future reference, while this was a PDF file, you can open PowerPoint with a free open source office suite called OpenOffice and it's brother suite LibreOffice.

In may ways (except for strict compatibility and some issues with very large documents) it's much better than the MS Office product.

By all present accounts, they were a legitimate manufacturer of parts for Lugers, possibly for assembly of parts from other manufacturers. Similar to Vickers assembling Dutch Lugers.

There! That should stimulate discussion among the many historians here...
