Mauser Police Luger

Question for forum members: I recently purchased from Legacy a
P.08 Mauser Banner Police E/L dated 1942 serial number 2430y. My question is this: The gun appears original and correct in all respects but has the following odd feature; the ejector is straw
finished but the remainder of the gun is correctly salt-blued as it
should be. Is this an occurrence that could have taken place during
assembly? As I believe that Police Lugers at Mauser were probably (or may have been) assembled as commercial Lugers,
that perhaps they used an ejector having a straw finish, either by
mistake or maybe due to a shortage of blue ejectors at a late date
for Mauser Luger production.

The ejector is a non-numbered part, which could have been changed out at any time in the pistol's history. A strawed ejector is in no way, "incorrect" for your gun.

All (so far); thank you for your input. As I stated, this Luger appears correct in all other respects, but the straw ejector seems
a bit strange. It appears that the gun has not been messed with in any way, and is about 98% finish, all matching and has all
the correct E/N proofs as well as the E/L police acceptance.

also, if memory serves me correct, sometimes you will find Banner Commercials with strawed parts - am I remembering correctly?

Yes, ED most, if not all, Mauser Banner Commercials has straw
small parts, but the Police Banners usually should have all salt-
blue parts, but since the Police Banners were assembled in the
plant area that also assembled the commercial guns, it is
possible, I suppose that a straw ejector could have been assembled into a Police E/L.

By the way, I have your excellent book on Police Lugers, and I
find it a great reference on the subject.

I don't think a strawed ejector would be original on a 1942 E/L Police Banner. All the Military and Police I have seen in that year have the reddish color. Strawed on Commercial yes.

Easy enough to "fix"; I expect it is a replacement though, and would not worry about it-
since as pointed out is is not numbered and could be period.

Sure wouldn't keep me up at night.

The ejector itself is a spring. The reddish color is somewhat close to what would result from its being heat treated ("drawn down") to make it a spring, the temperature necessary for which is much greater than that at which a part is strawed. It may be that military ejectors occasionally skipped the subsequent bluing... but this is conjecture.

It might have been better if all 4 normally straw parts were present. I do have an exc reddish blued extractor available @$50 or would offer partial trade for your strawed one. TH

Tom, I need an ejector, not extractor. e-mail me if you have a
