Today's a day for cold beer and steaks! Forty-six years ago today I joined the Yankee Army.

Happy Anniversary George... my 48th passed unceremoniously on October 16th... Unknown to any but me... all that would have known in my family, have already passed before me... I was drafted this date, in 1967, and reported for induction into the Army of the United States, at 401 North Broad Street in Philadelphia. Took a Troop Train to Fayetteville, NC for basic training at Fort Bragg, and the rest, as they say is history...
20 years, 3 months and 16 days later, I retired... seems like only yesterday......and missed being a US Marine by one row. Sitting in a classroom waiting for what was next, a Marine Gunnery Sergeant came in and counted the chairs. Then he shouted, "the first six rows ON YOUR FEET!... follow me, you are United States Marines..." ...I was in the 7th Row! -
