Don't worry your findings are alwas interesting, in fact later on I'll read about Gen Patton's quotes, and about the last gun of Gen. Custer. A friend of mine is a single action revolvers collector.

As far as the difference about 9mm and 9X21 IMI: they are not the same cartridge at all, and surely they've not the same size as 9x21IMI is 2mm longer, so it's slightly more powerful.

About the American Civil War: did you know that during the Civil War died more American soldiers than during all the other wars (WWI and WWII included)?
And did you know that among all the soldiers that fought in the Civil War at least 10,000 of them were Italians?
Apparently the vast majority of the fought for the North but was reported that at last a few hundred fought for the Confederates.
