Interesting Gunbroker Listing

I'm not sure I buy the story, but a pretty interesting item, none the less.

In what level of readiness were these carried aboard aircraft? IF there was a round in the chamber, it would probably still be there.
Definitely an interesting conversation-piece.

Must have been at least a .50 caliber projectile, and if somebody was wearing it in a holster, I would bet the impact must have hurt the user like the dickens! I agree that if a round was chambered... it would still be in there!

I seriously doubt that is going to buff right out!

I would never buy a "story" , still that piece is quite interesting.
Still I don't think there are many chances that aircrew would have had a round chambered during flight.

If that was the case, it would most likely be "cocked and locked". I'd say the chamber is empty.

I contacted the seller and he says he probed it with wire and it is empty. He also says the period Airmen told him that was standard carry practice.

If I'm not wrong LUFTWAFFE didn't have any .50 Cal. they used a 15mm aircraft "kanone" that was in wide use.
I'd say it was either a stray U.S. .50 or a LUFTWAFFE 15mm.
