When I was a little kid I remember that my father had a "Vespa" (means wasp because of its shape) exactly like the one in the famous film "Roman Holiday", they are absolutey perfect for getting around in the traffic. Nowadays here in the North people don't use them so much as in the South of the country, mainly because of the weather.
A proper helmet is absolutely compulsory, and (except in Naples) :-) it's used everywhere.
