Thanks Wayne , The description by Diver6106 of the dots is right IMHO .

The four point star is a reject mark and entirely different than the dots .

I am going to say " don't know " on the external numbers other than they are probably post-manufacturing . The good point is the normal inside proofs-number look good so it is not a mismatched gun .

IMHO HK's are far and away the most variation rich and interesting Lugers and there were only something over 11,000 made . About the same as Simson but no comparison on the neat-o-meter . Not to knock Simsons but they look like Erfurts to me and are all pretty much the same .
