Humph...I thought one of the 'Old Fudds' would have replied by now...

Dave, it's been a couple years since I took my 1900AE down and removed & inspected the mainspring for cracks/break in one of the leaves. I don't remember taking pics, but I was expecting some tension, like with the coil mainspring. I had clamped it to my mill table but the 1900 mainspring just pushed right out, with minimal effort and no tools, IIRC.

Removing the safety lever to get at the crud underneath was harder.
