All depends on the environment it was buried in. Thick mud, being anaerobic, tends to preserve metal surfaces and leather really well, while looser dirt tends to really rust things up. You-tube is full of videos of Russian kids digging up every battlefield out there. Some stuff is amazingly preserved, others are lumps of junk.
