I also admire the attitude about not shooting "too valuable" collector's weapons. Few times I also posted my opinion on that subject. Some of you (looks like most of you) feel this "obligation" to preserve the historical pieces for "future generations". That's admirable, and noble. I really mean it. I treat weapons like tools (I always did), and tools are made to be used. I am also a selfish old bastard, that doesn't believe he has any "future" (or hardly any) left. No "afterlife" beliefs either. I lived through three wars (actively participating), and lived to talk about it. Now I will play to the MAX (in the time slot left), and I don't give a damn what happens to my possessions when I'm gone. On the bright side, I WILL make a contribution to the humanity (humanity which I detest, generally speaking), IF I destroy/damage MY weapons by firing them! How? Well,.....your descendants will inherit much rarer pieces, and the overall number of ........(insert ANYTHING here) will be reduced! Example,......among MANY watches I own, I have one that was appraised at $250K. I wear that one in the regular "rotation" with others, and some of them are valued at less than 1K. If I happen to be doing some yard work (or anything dirty) that day, I keep it on the wrist, and don't think much about it. I take my watches off ONLY when I work on my vehicles (engine compartment). My attitude about ANY object I own is: "I purchased IT. It didn't purchase ME." I will leave PLENTY to my descendants, and MY toys I'll play/use/destroy if I wish. I never inherited one red penny. Worked hard for everything I own. My kids (and their kids) should do the same. If the world explodes (or implodes) few seconds after I breathe my last breath, I wouldn't give a damn either.
