There is also a member here named 'Thor' who does restorations; you might contact him about restoring the rear sight and adjacent barrel extension ear that were filed down...

Yes, since it's a matching number, that's the way to go. Much smaller than a stock lug repair, if it's to be built back up with weld. So it may not be too pricey to bring this back. Thor's work will knock your socks off!
