Default Has this Simson been renumbered?

This auction lists Simson Luger number 3881:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=458655806

The areas of the serial number on the receiver and the frame look ground down and renumbered to me. The font on the frame looks odd.

What do you think?

Marc

I have it in my database. Looks nice, but fonts not correct...

Marc

Strange shape numbers, they look just printed, bah! Who knows there must be an explanation.

Actually, the position, font and size of the barrel digits do look like those on my Simson, made about 2,000 later.

Marc, I had a Simson in the past. It's original. There are not many Simson floating around, so it's also in Ed's book.

The gun was sold. But its ad pictures still belong to me. Here are the front view and barrel view of it. Look and feel being different?
