You are correct. It is 'DLWP', with the date '1940' stamped directly below it. If you know in your mind that it should be 'DLWP', you can see the 'D' clearly. Otherwise, it looks like LWP. It looks like the stamp was not level when the maker of the holster hit it. The 'D' is there, but not nearly as deep as the LWP
