I like the opening sequence IIRC the first CoD, when you are jumping at nite into Normandy.

Pretty cool to look around at all the action while floating down.

I just got & installed the CoD: GoTY edition (the first one) and after the training level, I started out on the ground watching other chutes come down...

This is the basic CoD #1, had to hunt down the 1.5 patch and then find the no-CD hack. Haven't installed either yet; I also found the cheats & walkthrough and want to try them first. Graphics are pretty crude; even compared to Wolfenstein. I also hate the default keyboard layout.

Walked into two German outposts because I can't tell Germans from US, got killed in the village. Objectives seem confusing; first one was to find a Sgt but all I could find was his jump bag, but I got the Objective Completed message...

Continuing tonight when I can see the [dark] screen better...

OH, Puh-lease!!! "Friendly fire will not be tolerated!"... What fun is that???

No, you're right. I re-started 'mission 1/pathfinder' several times, and you do drop down and several other troops drop with you. Then you have to assemble/activate a radio beacon and then dozens more drop in.

Most get killed immediately. Hey, they run right into the bloody Huns! Don't wait for me! Just take off and get shot! Charge that MG42 while I'm trying to find the freaking Sergeant! Oh, OK - he's hanging in a tree! Well, that explains why finding his leg pack completed my mission...

That is one of my complaints about all 'assisted mission' PC games. The 'squad mates' keep running on while you're trying to reload, or go over the mission objective, or figure out WTF you are...And you end up with nobody to help you.

Half-Life had better AI. You could lead/push them into battle.

But all of them manage to get in my way while I'm firing. In Half-Life & its sequels, you can kill them (easiest way to get ammo). In CoD, you get scolded.

I'm about 5 or 6 levels in. Just took a breath-taking ride in a liberated French auto through German positions. Whee-hoo!

In MoH Pacific you can direct your squad mates to maneuver.

IIRC, from TV ads, it's an on-line game???

I was laid up all last week with a torn-up knee; finally got to the Dr on Thurs, X-rays Fri...Waiting for results but I can get around better now...I had time to play PC games, and was actually surprised that CoD was GoTY in 2003, since it was based on id's Quake 3 engine which powered Wolfenstein (and got Wolf GoTY in 2001)...I was surprised because CoD's environment seems so lifeless compared to the older Wolf...CoD actully seems kind of boring...In Wolf, you had clearly defined goals in each level; in CoD you keep running around shooting things up until you're told you've completed your objective...No run & jump obstacles; no ladder climbing (that I've found yet); no underwater labyrinths...The rooms seem bare, static; in Wolf, bridges collapse under you, floors break apart & dump you in a dungeon...It just seems so much more...immersible...

Some of the PC games I bought/played/tested back in the late 90's/early 00's won't play under Win2000/WinXP {Mortyr, Serious Sam, PowerSlave]...I'll have to boot up a Win98 HDD and try them again...
