I have noticed latley after charging/cocking my luger at times, I go to decock it and it's already as if the trigger had been pulled or it's been decocked. it's off and on now and never did this before. loaded a snap cap went to pull trigger, nothing. had to recharge twice to get it to "fire" on the snap cap. Is this the trigger spring or something else? just got gun back from gunsmith who cleaned it after mag check.

one thing I notice is now after i chamber a round at times the block sticks out far enough that the safety cannot be turned on. It has to be pushed in so the safety is slide up next to it. That's scary because its that close to firing just by charging it. There are two springs in there I notice, both flat. Names? Anybody here sell quality reproduction or original?

The flat spring that pushes down on the sear bar is called the sear bar spring. When you flip the safety on, it blocks the movement of this sear bar. Lugerdoc on the forums here should have some of the springs in stock, talk to him for it may be a weak sear bar spring. Also, check your firing pin and the contact point it has with the sear bar. My Luger was having a similar problem and low and behold, the firing pin had burs on the block that sticks out and contact the sear bar. Only when a round was being chambered would it actually charge the weapon. There are other ways to check the contact points in this area, someone here should know how.

The little spring plunger on the end of the sear must be sticking due to congealed lubricants and dirt that is decades old. Soak the front end of the sear in penetrating oil and make sure the plunger (actually the disconnector) has freedom of movement before you reassemble the upper. That should fix your problem. Let us know how it goes.

Stressed, I'd check the sear bar plunger as John suggest above, but from what you say, your cocking problem is more likely related to a weak sear bar flat spring. I have these in stock @$15 postpaid. TH

The weapon could fire as fast as the action cycles, which is very fast. I believe this was tested on artillery lugers in World War 1 but the ROF was too fast. |

There have been some folks on this forum that have experienced their Luger going full auto totally unexpectedly. I feel sure that it got their attention. The toggle train is quite fast in it's action when everything is correct.

There is only one sear bar flat spring, not two! It sounds like your original spring cracked in two and needs replacing.
